South Nutfield 2nd XI v Salfords Cricket Club Sat 1st XI on Sat 29 Aug 2015 at 13:00
Salfords Cricket Club Won

Match report To conclude what has been a remarkable season for Salfords 1st XI all they had to do was bat the ever presence of rain and not to mention beat bottom of the league side South Nutfield who were fielding a very weak side in comparison.

With once again Ian Catt winning the toss as he had done for much of the season he chose to take to the field with the plan on taking early wickets to get on top of the game early doors. The new ball was thrown to both Luke Edmonds and Danny Besley who had in their minds only to take wickets as quickly as they possibly could however that proved rather difficult on a pitch that was very flat and lifeless providing nothing for the bowler and favoured the batsmen no doubt. However after a steady spell from both of the openers the breakthrough finally came when Danny Besley delivered a slower ball the cut in on the batsmen leaving his middle stump exposed with the ball being clipped he was dismissed for 9. South Nutfield never looked like surpassing anything more than 160 with steady and accurate bowling from the entire team, most notably Tony Palmer who took 5 wickets that wrapped up the innings pretty sharpish with South Nutfield reaching a much under par total of 135 in 44.1 overs which was not a true reflection of a good score on a ground where the boundaries aren't that big.

All Salfords had to do now to clinch promotion to division one was knock off the runs before the rain and with a light drizzle in the air throughout the entire of South Nutfield's innings and no sign of let up the teams were back out onto the pitch, both openings from last week's impressive win were once again Danny Besley and Prakash Kasireddy. The two openers got off to a good start as they had done the previous week but nothing really materialised for the two on a pitch now that had been heavily affected by the rain seeing the ball barely rise above knee high on occasions which was the unfortunate undoing of Danny Besley, who was bowled to a ball that didn't ever rise. Next in was Martin Stone who was trapped LBW for 5 not the return that he had hoped for, Prakash Kasireddy was hanging around but was then soon dismissed on 23 once again being bowled which was definitely a trend for the rest of the day. The total was never out of sight for Salfords but what was going to stop them from reaching that was the ever increasing decline in batsmen with wickets falling rapidly as the pitch was playing tricks for the batsmen it was proving hard for the Salfords batsmen to score runs, however Shailendra Ram took it within himself to score a quick fire 35 runs and get the score back on track. Rob Besley also fell just as he was getting started on 14 once again to a ball that never got up above knee height and was bowled. However with Salfords 8 down and slowly creeping to there total of 136 Tony Palmer and Luke Edmonds managed to stick around a dig the ball out sealing our fate and winning us the game.

After the game had come to a conclusion we later found that the Nutfield and Wornersh game had been cancelled meaning that they would both receive 12 points each which because we won our game we managed to seal the title with us not being inside the top 2 the entire season.
